 Partner --- Norma Walton, B.A., LL.B., M.B.A.
Norma is a founding partner of Walton Advocates and practices corporate law and real estate development law. Along with her role as a practising lawyer, she is also co-founder and President of The Rose and Thistle Group Ltd. and of Hazelton Financial Corporation. The Rose and Thistle Group acquires, develops and manages commercial and residential real estate projects. Hazelton Financial syndicates debt and equity real estate acquisitions and construction funding.
Norma has a Bachelors Degree in French, a Bachelor of Laws Degree and an executive Masters of Business Administration Degree all from the University of Western Ontario. She is a licensed mortgage broker in the Province of Ontario and is a member of and certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a family law specialist, although she is no longer taking new family law clients. She has considerable corporate law experience having been involved in multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions, financings, contracts, incorporations, succession planning for companies and complex employment law matters. She is a published author, a sought after speaker having given in excess of two hundred speeches and has appeared on both television and radio.
Partner --- Ronauld G. Walton, CPIM, LL.B., LL.M., M.B.A.
Ron is a founding partner of Walton Advocates and has practiced corporate, employment and intellectual property law for over a decade. He currently acts as counsel to the firm. He has a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Intellectual Property Laws Degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, a Masters in Business Administration Degree from the University of Liverpool, a Diploma in Marketing Management from Centennial College and is Certified in Production and Inventory Management by the American Production and Inventory Control Society. He is also a registered trade mark agent with the Government of Canada, is licensed by the Government of Ontario as a mortgage broker and is a member in good standing of the Law Society of England and Wales and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
In addition to his role as counsel to the law firm, Ron is a co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Rose and Thistle Group Ltd. and Hazelton Financial Corporation.
Senior Law Clerk --- Jackie McKinlay
Jackie has almost a decade of real estate law experience and is the hub through which all of our residential and commercial real estate deals flow. She co-ordinates condominium registration documents, real estate financings, interacts with lawyers, clients, architects, surveyors, conveyancers and City personnel, she co-ordinates the preparation and receipt of R plans, site plans, surveys and landscape surveys and all of the real estate acquisitions, sales and re-financings for our related company, The Rose and Thistle Group Ltd. She also administers and ensures correct preparation of the documentation relating to another of our sister companies, Hazelton Financial Corporation. Jackie is a graduate of The Ontario Law Clerks Association and is a registered mortgage agent.
Senior Law Clerk and Mortgage Agent --- Tom Trklja , B.A. in Law, F.Inst.L.C.O.
Tom obtained his Law Degree from the University of Belgrade in 1987 after which he practised law in Serbia for several years. Subsequently he graduated on the President's Honour List from the Legal Assistant Program at Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology in 1999. Through his legal training and practical experience Tom has been in a legal field for more than seventeen years and has vast experience in the areas of corporate, estate (with an emphasis on succession planning) and real estate development law. He has assisted with multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions, financings, contracts, incorporations, succession planning for companies and all aspects of real estate development permits (e.g. demolition, excavation, hoarding, shoring, building, etc.) and Committee of Adjustments and Ontario Municipal Board applications and appearances. He is a member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario and is a registered mortgage agent in the Province of Ontario.
Accounting Manager --- John Geikins, C.M.A.
John manages our finance staff and oversees the maintenance and accuracy of all of our financial records. He has an Accounting and Finance Diploma from Seneca College and is a Certified Management Accountant with over twenty five years experience in accounting and income tax compliance. Prior to joining us, John was in upper management discharging considerable financial responsibility with one of Canada’s largest corporations.
Office Manager --- Nancy Penny
Nancy organises and supervises all of the administrative activities that facilitate the efficient running of our office. In addition, she oversees management of the facilities owned and/or operated by our related companies, The Rose and Thistle Group Ltd. and Hazelton Property Management Ltd., including maintenance and repair, safety and security and tenant/purchaser relations.
She studied Landscape Architecture in college after which she ran her own landscaping company for ten years. Active in the community, she is the past president of a number of local organizations and is presently the community liaison of the Terraview Willowfield Parent Community Council and a member of the Don Watershed Regeneration Council, an environmental lobby group.
Mortgage Agent --- Debra McKeon
Debi is registered as a mortgage specialist with the government of Ontario. She is one of the top mortgage agents in Canada having qualified for numerous sales awards from various lending institutions. Success breeds success and Debi’s accomplishments have given her a wide range of lender’s with whom she is familiar and on whom she can call to obtain the best terms and rates for our clients.
Mortgage Agent --- Kevin Byworth
Kevin with years of experience in mortgage and finance is a caring, experienced and passionate mortgage consultant. He specialises in helping first-time buyers navigate the mortgage options available to them, by taking account of their desires and financial circumstances to formulate mortgage choices and explain the merits of each one in a clear and effective manner. Kevin is with you every step of the way, and is accessible at times convenient to the client.
Mortgage Agent --- George Phillips
George is a registered mortgage specialist in the Province of Ontario. With his financial industry background as a currency trader he is in a unique position to assist with home financing. He is especially adept at obtaining funding for self-employed individuals.
